David Clay II

The former Deputy Chief of Staff to Mayor Chris Clark and events coordinator for Harvey, Clay has never held public office before. A 3rd Ward native, he studied public policy at Vanderbilt University and is pursuing a Master’s of Public Policy from the University of Chicago.

He is advocating for greater transparency with the city’s finances so potential investors can feel comfortable bringing development, he told the HWH.

Clay spearheaded the growth and development of the city’s Block Captain program, a decentralized effort that allows residents to build relationships with one another. The program allows residents to exercise agency in conceptualizing block-level problems.

He has donated at least $4,000 to his former boss’s campaign, according to an HWH analysis of campaign finance records.

Aisha Pickett

Pickett has served for Treasurer the past four years. She has routinely pushed for monthly financial reports, which are not currently being produced. Additionally, she has raised questions about lack of transparency in the mayor’s office, namely about the budget process.

That came to blows last summer. According to her, Mayor Chris Clark had the police escort Pickett out of a closed executive session. The topic at hand pertained to the city’s finances, but Clark told Pickett it did not concern her, Pickett recounted in a Facebook Live video.

She read a statement condemning the matter at a City Council meeting a month later. Pickett’s statement begins near the 50:00 mark.

If reelected, she would like to collaborate more with the finance department and push for monthly and annual financial reports.
