Woman shot on 147th St. during funeral procession in Harvey

Someone opened fire on a funeral procession late Saturday morning. It may be a retaliation shooting, police on scene said.

A woman was shot late Saturday morning as a funeral procession made its way along 147th St.

According to an Harvey police officer on scene, as a funeral procession left St. Mark’s Missionary Baptist Church in Harvey, someone opened fire on the processional line.

According to witnesses on scene, she was the brother of the man being buried. Her condition remains currently unclear.

Police taped off a perimeter around a white SUV, which the woman crashed into a home on the corner of 147th St. and Seeley Ave. in Dixmoor after being injured. The home site directly across from Rosa Parks Middle School at West Harvey-Dixmoor School District 147.

Police from Harvey, Midlothian, Posen, Markham, and Phoenix were on scene directing traffic and doing crowd control.

Harvey police have blocked off 147th St. between Hoyne Ave. and Wood St. Drivers are advised to take side streets as re-routes as the investigation continues.

Anti-violence workers from Roseland Ceasefire were seen arriving around 1:15P.M.

A Harvey native, Amethyst is a Brooks Middle School (’11) and Thornton Township High School alum (‘15) and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from NYU (BA’19). She is an alumna of the Data and Policy Summer Scholar program at the University of Chicago.
