Donor Transparency Policy

The Harvey World Herald endeavors to make the city and Southland region a more transparent place — that includes within our own organization. We do not allow financial support to influence newsroom policy; donors have no influence over editorial operations; donors are not allowed to assign, review, edit, or pitch content to the Harvey World Herald.

We accept individual donations (one-time or recurring), grants from philanthropic organizations, and gifts to support general operations, coverage, and community events. The Harvey World Herald is a for-profit entity with a 501c3 fiscal sponsor, the Tiny News Collective; donations made through our fiscal sponsorship are tax deductible. Note that structurally, the Harvey World Herald still operates as nonprofit entity: profits are not and cannot be funneled to any owner, we have oversight through our advisory board (board of directors), and our entire organization (rather than individual reporting projects) ss fiscally sponsored by the TNC.

We do not accept contributions from anonymous sources, government entities, lobbyists, elected officials, or any individual seeking public office. We do not accept contributions from individuals who, as deemed by our advisory board, present a conflict of interest to our organization.

Our newsroom makes public all donations received in the amount of $5,000 or more. Currently, that list includes the following individuals and organizations: the Google News Initiative, Indiegraf (through the Knight Foundation-supported News Capital Fund), National Association of Black Journalists-CZI Black Press Grant Program, Field Foundation of Illinois, Crossroads Fund, Square One Foundation, and the Pivot Fund.
