Federal officials will be on site to help in the aftermath of summer and early fall flooding woes.

Officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency are opening a recovery center in Harvey, one of several opened across the western and south suburbs in recent weeks. Help will be available for those impacted by flood damages experienced between June 29 and July 2.

The center, jointly operated by federal and state officials, will be located within the T-107 Building, also known as the “new T-Building,” on Thornton’s campus. That’s to the east of the main building.

It’s open from Monday, October 23 through Saturday, October 28 from 8am to 5pm.

Residents can learn how to apply for financial assistance. Renters and homeowners should be prepared to bring supporting documentation.

The city will apply for grant funding from FEMA to address stormwater issues, Mayor Chris Clark said while attending a joint ward meeting hosted by Alderwoman Colby Chapman (2nd) and Alderman Tracy Key (4th) this past Saturday.

Representatives from the United States Small Business Administration will also be in attendance.

Federal officials previously opened recovery centers in Chicago, Cicero, Berwyn, and Riverdale.

A recovery recenter in Maywood also opens this week.

We’re filling the void after the collapse of local newspapers decades ago. But we can’t do it without reader support.
