Harvey, Illinois – December 20, 2024 – The Harvey World Herald is proud to announce that it has been selected as a recipient of a grant from the Pivot Fund, an organization dedicated to empowering grassroots journalism that serves communities of color. This funding is part of the Pivot Fund’s $1.2 million investment in eight local and independent media outlets nationwide, supporting critical news coverage and amplifying underrepresented voices. This financial boost will support reporting that reshapes the narrative of Harvey and its youth.

A Commitment to Empowering Community Journalism

The Harvey World Herald has been recognized for its commitment to delivering vital news and fostering civic engagement within Harvey and the south suburbs. With this $150,000 grant, we will support editorial operations and multimedia storytelling that uses civics to engage and activate young people.

“We’ve been working really hard to build greater inroads with values-aligned philanthropic organizations to grow our operations in Harvey and be a productive asset of civic life,” said Amethyst J. Davis, Harvey native, Thornton Township High School alumna, and founder of the HWH. “This partnership with the Pivot Fund bolsters our ability to highlight political corruption in Harvey’s current mayoral administration and bring young people into the fold of how power brokers make decisions that directly affect them.”
