Cook County Commissioner Kisha McCaskill (5th) was approved for a consultant contract with the Harvey Public Library District. Board president Anthony McCaskill is her husband.
At a special meeting, the library board met to discuss hiring administrators and converting two temporary workers to full-time employment status.
She’s exiting that role — not the board — citing scheduling issues. The Harvey Public Library District could possibly name a new treasurer, and board secretary, at a special meeting on Tuesday.
“I've never seen the bank account that stout,” president Anthony McCaskill said.
Felicia Powell Johnson and Angelette Taylor were named to the board in November, filling two vacancies left by a death and an abrupt resignation.
Assignments for the finance, maintenance, and policy and personnel committees were established in October. President Anthony McCaskill and Vice President Keith Price also criticized HWH news coverage during the public comment period.
In September, Harvey’s public library tensions came to bare as one board member dissented to most key votes, including naming a new president, vice president, and treasurer.
The former interim library director incorrectly submitted vacancy paperwork to the state library related to the appointment of Keith Price.
Nesbitt, who was elected in 2013 and re-elected in 2019 to a six-year term as treasurer, passed away last month after battling a longtime illness.
