Pace to celebrate Dolly Day with little libraries across six transit stations, including Harvey
September 25 is Dolly Day, in honor of late singer Dolly Parton and her hit single and film “9 to 5.” Straphangers can take and leave a book at the Harvey bus station, along with five other locations.
In celebration of Dolly Day, an homage to late singer Dolly Parton, Pace is creating little libraries across its stations to promote literacy for all ages on Sept. 25.
Little libraries will be found at Harvey, Bolingbrook, Plainfield, Barrington Rd., the Northwest Transportation Center, and Elgin. Straphangers can leave and take a book, as they please.
“Dolly Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading and the simple ways we can help connect people to books,” said Pace Chairman John Noak. “These little libraries will make it easier for passengers to share stories, discover something new, and contribute to a culture of learning and community.”
There are several recent efforts to promote literacy across the Southland, some of which are in alignment with Parton’s foundation.
Thornton Township families can register their children to receive a free book every month until age five through Parton’s Imagination Library program. Harvey library placed a cardboard cutout of Parton next to the information desk promoting the effort. In November 2025, the Top Ladies of Distinction, a nonprofit woman-led humanitarian organization, dedicated a similar little free library at Harvey Park District’s Gloria Taylor Center.
