Harvey Public Library District trustee Charwana Morgan joined the Oct. 8 meeting by phone following an extended absence. Morgan filed a lawsuit against the library nearly a year ago for rejecting her requests for remote participation in meetings but was settled this summer.
Thornton Township High School District 205 will partner with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office to provide additional security services at school events. Meanwhile, the district will begin trademarking logos and likenesses for all three schools.
The city will participate in a public auction to sell six public works vehicles. City officials said the vehicles are inoperable and would require costly repairs that exceed their value.
The village granted business owners a conditional-use permit to operate a new cigar lounge at 11 W. 144th St. after gaining approval to rezone the property.
The city will employ Anchor Heavy Civil to install new flow meters at O’Connor Pumping Station and repair a water main near 151st and Morgan streets. City officials said these improvements will save thousands of dollars in water bills.
Thornton alumni spearheaded a visual story described as “harmony in motion.” Artists drew upon Harvey diversity, history, musical traditions, and even plant life to completely revamp City Hall’s northern facade.
West Harvey-Dixmoor School District 147 is anticipating a final budget of $21 million for the fiscal year. Meanwhile, the Thornton Township High Schools District 205 Student Board of Education presented plans for its second “Turn Up for Peace” community event.
The Harvey Public Library District board breezed through a short agenda and postponed a discussion on the library’s 2027 fiscal year budget during its September meeting.
Dixmoor Public Library District secretary Arletta Evans asked the village board again to approve the construction of its own library. It has been sharing a facility with the William Leonard Public Library District since 2011.
The city is seeking a $1.6 million loan from the Cook County Property Tax Bridge Fund due to delays in property tax bills. The program assists taxing districts that heavily rely on property taxes for their revenue.
