Harvey City Hall reopens after HVAC issues
An HVAC malfunction at City Hall forced a temporary shuttering of City Hall. Acting mayor Shirley Drewenski took to social media to assure a “quick fix” to a system sorely in need of upgrades.

City Hall has resumed operations after an HVAC kerfuffle led officials and staff to move services outside and cancel a regular City Council meeting.
On June 9, Harvey announced the building would close due to an HVAC issue, according to the city’s official Facebook account.
“Our HVAC system is way too old to permanently fix this system,” said acting mayor Shirley Drewenski. “Air and heat are on two different systems.”
Tents were set up for the remainder of that day until it closed at 3 P.M. City Hall was closed the next day.
“We have a 40-year-old plus air conditioning system that is on its last leg,” said Richard Seput, Harvey’s Superintendent of the Public Works Department. “It’s kind of an identical situation at the Police Department… even if we were able to get air conditioning at PD we wouldn’t have anywhere to flow it through the building.” Because the HVAC system is so old, it makes it harder to find replacement parts, Seput added.
Cooling centers at the city’s fire department and library were established, Harvey Police Chief Cameron Biddings said. The department received a grant for a new boiler system. While the installation is happening the air duct unit is out.
The HVAC system is now mostly operational and City Hall is open again. The next regularly scheduled City Council meeting, at City Hall in its chambers, is June 22 at 7:00 P.M.
