After three years of litigation, Harvey police produce crime data and arrest log to the HWH

The department records include seven years of arrests data, total incident counts for major crime categories, and disposal certificates.

In 2023, the Harvey World Herald filed a lawsuit against the city after it failed to produce records associated with a request for crime data. Now, the Harvey Police Department has provided its first set of records. HWH / Amethyst J. Davis

The Harvey Police Department produced several years worth of crime incident totals and citywide arrest information as part of a lawsuit the Harvey World Herald filed in 2023.

In 2023, the HWH filed a lawsuit against Harvey after the city failed to process a records request. The request sought quantitative figures, including body camera metadata, crime figures, and arrest data.

In July, the department produced:

  • Incident counts for various crimes, including but not limited to carjackings, robberies, domestic battery, traffic stops, and sexual assaults;
  • Arrest data from January 2019 to June 2026, including the date, time, and charges;
  • An example of a computer-aided dispatch report, generated by law enforcement and emergency dispatch centers to track and monitor incidents in real time.

The production also included disposal certificates. The documents show which records Harvey Police Department disposed of, especially from prior to 2018, such as investigative and evidence files and arrest logs, what time period the documents are from, and how many records were to be disposed of.

Litigation is still ongoing. The HWH is represented by Loevy & Loevy.
