Harvey on edge after WHD SD147 board member warns families of man luring children into cargo van
A Black man with locs attempted to lure children into a cargo van over the weekend along stretches of Broadway Ave., according to one school board member. But there were no child abductions reported to Harvey during that period, said acting mayor Shirley Drewenski.
Harvey families are on high alert after a man attempted to lure school children into a white cargo van this weekend in Harvey, according to a local school board member.
The individual in question is a Black man with dreadlocks who is attempting to lure children into a white cargo van by telling them he is 16 years old on Broadway Ave. between Sibley Blvd. and 154th St. over the weekend, West Harvey-Dixmoor School District 147 school board member Sharron McGee shared in a community alert issued on social media Sunday.
The district planned to increase staff presence in the area as children returned to school Monday, Sept. 14, according to McGee’s alert.
However, “According to our Chief of Police, they were no child nor attempt of a child abduction report to the City of Harvey,” acting mayor Shirley Drewenski wrote in an email to the HWH Monday afternoon. “The only call was a man said hello to a young adult at Thornton High school, but young adult just walked away.”
