South Holland police seeking help in fatal hit-and-run near Babe Ruth baseball field

Officers responded to a call of a man lying along railroad tracks on 173rd St on August 15. It is believed he was struck and dragged some distance, a village spokesperson said in a news release.

The South Holland Police Department is asking for help to solve a fatal hit-and-run.

Officers responded to a call along the 100 block of East 173rd St. on Aug. 15, where they found Cornell Carpenter, 59, lying along railroad tracks near the Babe Ruth baseball field. 

Investigators believe a vehicle struck Carpenter and dragged him. The vehicle is believed to have sustained some damage, such as broken tail lights or front-end damage. The village is urging the driver to turn themselves in to the SHPD.

Anyone with information can send an anonymous tip by calling (708) 331-3131, extension 2, or online.
