HWH files lawsuit against Harvey library over special meeting alleging Open Meetings Act violation
The suit alleges the Harvey Public Library District violated the Open Meetings Act by not properly notifying the public of a special meeting in June. The board’s actions that evening included making an appointment to a vacant seat.

The Harvey World Herald is suing the Harvey Public Library District in a suit alleging the board violated the Open Meetings Act.
Filed in August, the lawsuit alleges the board failed to provide prior public notice of a special meeting it held on June 16, 2026.
The board did not, the suit holds, publicly post a notice or post the agenda on its website 48 hours in advance. Read the lawsuit here.
The suit seeks the courts to declare the HPLD violated the OMA and enforce future compliance. The suit also seeks to avoid all final action taken that evening, including the appointment of trustee Bruce Starks to a vacant seat.
