Catherine Adams joins the HWH as a general assignment reporter
The South Holland native is the newsroom’s first full-time reporter hire, and will be a key figure in forthcoming community engagement efforts.

South Holland native Catherine Adams has joined the Harvey World Herald as a general assignment reporter. Adams began July 1.
In this role, she’ll be particularly versatile, covering local government, producing deep dives and features, surfacing potential investigations, and making municipal policy seem less opaque through digestible explainers.
Adams will also host the newsroom’s forthcoming town hall series, “Hey Neighbor.” The newsroom will become more public-facing, using the community meetings to determine what stories we’re missing and create dialogue on issues that matter to Southland locals.
She is the newsroom’s first full-time reporter, bringing an array of multimedia reporting experience. Adams has produced data analysis and visualization on enrollment trends at Chicago Public Schools, produced a podcast on Gen Z’s newfound affinity for cigarettes, and filmed and edited video reporting on Chicago’s cold-weather cyclists.
Adams previously traveled to London to report on the city’s sobriety and pub culture. Before pursuing journalism, she worked in marketing in Chicago and nationally.
Some places where has work has been featured include the Lansing Journal, Greatest, and Sleep.com.
Adams holds a Master’s of Journalism from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s from Princeton University. She is conversational in Korean, and is an alumna of the University of Chicago Laboratory School in Hyde Park.
Since 2020, she has served as president of Princeton’s Bhangra Alumni Association.
We’re filling the void after the collapse of local newspapers decades ago. But we can’t do it without reader support.
