Kristin McKee promoted to news editor at the HWH

Kristin McKee has joined the Harvey World Herald as a full-time news editor, where she will provide editorial leadership to staff and ensure Southland locals and the issues they care about are reflected in coverage.

She first joined the organization in March 2023 as a freelancer, largely on the arts and culture beat. McKee has covered the impact of COVID-19 on high school drama programming, theater productions, and profiled James Beard award-winning chef Damarr Brown. 

She has a skilled collaborator, producing joint reporting that surfaced how a contested stormwater management project on 153rd St. and Myrtle Ave. would impact Harvey youth and a long-shot effort to construct a civic park across the street.

Most recently, her reporting looked at the role of civic content creators in filling information gaps in Southland communities disaffected with local politics.

In January 2025, McKee began a contract role as a civic editor, where she edited coverage of local government.

The Plainfield native holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Media Studies from Roosevelt University, where she served as editor of The Torch, the student newspaper. She previously interned for the Illinois Journalism Association of Education, curating e-newsletters and managing social media.

She starts in her full-time capacity August 1.
